4 Cities in 8 Days

This tumblog traces how me, my sis and my mom attempt to travel and visit 4 different cities in 8 days. As impossible as it sounds, we idealistically hope that at the end of this trip we would be able to cover the most important sights, sounds, smells of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and Dallas. I'll try my best to dillgently keep a record of everything. If you do notice I blog much more and more spontaneously than on my main space, hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy keeping tabs on what happens :)

If you're a friend and you happened to drop by, leave a note by clicking 'ask me anything'! Would love to hear from you!

The next day was today! Universal studios which I thought was average because what could beat the day before right?! There were some pretty cool rides and we got to ride through some sets but I wasn’t crazy about it because all the sets were FAKE, the cars were FAKE, everything was more or less FAKE or simulated? Something that I don’t fancy too much… I guess for now I’ll just dedicate one single post to today but if I find time tomorrow I’ll do more! Many useless pictures of houses, sets and cars but otherwise relatively interesting. Have arrived in San Francisco at about 9pm local time, bathed everything already and going to head to bed to prepare for a full day tomorrow! Gonna be a long day and packed ‘cos it’s only a day here in SF. Hopefully can land myself a Vice Verses CD while I’m here. So many things to do places to go, shall update soon enough! Till then!

We ended the day with pictures with the waiters and waitresses! Gave them a big tip and was wondering why they were so friendly, I could only think that ‘cos tipping is according to how good their service was but I really could feel that they were sincere and genuine in their serving us it really makes me feel like going back again! All in all, it was an awesome day with an awesome car with awesome people :D

Our dining experience at Bubba Gump.

All of us really thoroughly enjoyed ourselves especially mom and look at the top two pictures, if you want something just flip from ‘run forrest run’ to ‘stop forrest stop’ ‘cos Forrest was good at running in the movie. And the waiters kept stopping anyway to see if we were fine. When Mom wanted to know more about the san francisco branch, the waiter just pulled a chair beside us and gave us all the info we needed. So helpful! Our dinner was just enough, not too full and the food was fantastic. Freshest seafood ever. Reasonable price too. Everywhere people were laughing heartily, and we were having a good time all in all. Felt so good to just go and explore by ourselves and not be restricted with where the tour group wants to bring us. This is the type of holiday I love :)

We ate at this place! Bubba Gump and I’m telling you… the freshest seafood EVER. And if I can tell, that’s really fresh because usually I can’t tell the difference between a dumpling and a hargao okay maybe that’s abit exaggerated but seriously, this was great! And those who watched Forrest Gump know the origination of this restaurant and the place was vibrant with laughter, with people and the waiters were awesome as well :D

THIS WAS AWESOME we arrived at Santa Monica at the famous wheel I’ve seen and thought of going for so long! Too bad the rides were closed but just walking along the pier.. it was beautiful. So many movies were shot here like Baywatch, Raise Your Voice, Forrest Gump, just to name a few.. A little chilly but otherwise a charming walk and sense of accomplishment was beyond me!

Topped up my gas for the first time! Happy ‘cos I parked on the right side, found the gas lever thing in the car, chose the correct one, filled up the right amount enough for us to go to Santa Monica and back. There’s mom looking happy too ‘cos she just relaxed the whole way there and back in the back seat while I drove and min navigated. It was great. Though we didn’t take the freeway, and every intersection we had to stop ‘cos of traffic lights, at least we could take a look around the town of LA. Going there could have taken 30mins instead we took an hour plus… But it was good we had a good time driving :D

Our drive to Santa Monica… By this time I’ve already familiarized myself with the way LA people drive and the roads and the width of the lanes and the car etc. So I was pretty confident that we could get ourselves there safely… Just had to top up some gas and that was an experience in itself because I never top up my own gas in SG!

Next stop, Wal-Mart! Every America trip, have to make our way down to Wal-Mart. Things are really really really cheap but the moment i step in I started thinking of all the damage done to environment and undercutting employees etc. that I watch on documentaries back in SG so that was okay.. We just got our stuff and left. Started to feel really accomplished ‘cos this was our third stop! Back to the hotel to see if mom was feeling alright so we could make our way down to Santa Monica, the place where I wanted to go ever since I got here

Our lunch at In and Out Burger! It was… one of the best burgers I’ve eaten. Just typing this makes me hungry and feel like eating it again. The thing is, after living on American diet for the past few days, I realized why so many Americans are overweight because the food isn’t exactly a balanced diet - adding a few pieces of lettuce doesn’t make it healthy instantly.

ANYWAY, the bottom picture was the super friendly waiter that served us and EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER he greeted with the sincerest greeting and asked us where we were from, how we were doing, and when we said we were from Singapore he said “oh, Singapore? I love that country!” I wanted to ask if he really did know where that country was hahaaha but I snapped a picture of the counter and he did that wave thing you see there it was hilarious. He said bye when we were leaving too it was so interesting just sitting there observing how Americans live day to day and having cheeseburger shakes and all that.

Our first stop was Target, just to get ourselves familiarized… We took this at our second stop, In and Out Burger. Heard a lot about this place and it apparently was the all-american fast-food type of place so that was cool to visit.
